Finney Family || A Seaford Family || Seaford Family Photographer

Last week I was in Melbourne and in true Melbourne fashion, I was freezing! I am home and now and as is normal in North Queensland at this time of year, I am sweltering and waiting for first storms to roll in.

It was mildly coolish when I flew out of Townsville at 6am, and by coolish I mean 22º, but much to my surprise my light jacket was not needed when I landed because it was a scorching 32º and sunny. By my second day, it was cold and raining, then cold and clear and back to cold and rainy and this pattern continued for the rest of the weekend with one day reaching a feels like temp of 4º. I was fortunate enough to spend this time indoors (with heating) meeting some of the most wonderful people, who happen to also be photographers and talking all things from family to photography. Everyone I met was incredibly generous with their time and energy and I was able to leave with my cup full.

On my last day I anxiously watched outside I had a beach session scheduled with the lovely Natalie Finney and her family. Natalie is an amazing photographer in her own right and while I would have normally stressed about photographing such talent, my mind was solely focused on the weather. By early afternoon we decided to push the session forward and do an in-home shoot, with the hope it would clear enough that we could visit the beach at the end. I could not be more grateful for the weather because the in-home shots are some of my most favourite and the kids claimed that cuddles on the couch was the best part. By the end the rain had stoped, though the skies were still grey and armed with an umbrella we headed to the family’s local Seaford beach. In short, it was spectacular! The skies parted, the sun came out, there were blue skies in one direction and storm clouds in the other, seagulls hovered above us for ages and we had the beach to ourselves. It was a dream I couldn’t have dreamt. I could blabber on for ages about the the gorgeousness of the light, location and company but as usual the photos speak for themselves.

To the Finney Family
I felt instantly at ease and welcomed from the moment you opened your door and invited me into your home . I feel like the words aren’t enough but you have the most beautiful family. Natalie and Jon you should be so proud of what you have created together and the family you have made, your children are an absolute delight to this world and even though I know they will cause a few sleepless nights they will go on to create magic. Thank you for having me and trusting me. Much love to you all and enjoy these precious images of your family.
